ホテル ひしぎ竹

Location: Kyoto City
Material: White bamboo, copper
Technique: Hishigi processing
Client: Hiyoshiya
An example of Hishigi bamboo being used for the interior of a hotel.
Hishigi is a type of bamboo that is split along the back and then hammered with a special tool
into a plate shape by tapping along the grain.
It is often used as wall decoration for Kyoto townhouses, and is characterized by random cracks.
In this case, it is used in combination with a copper flat bar to create a clean impression.
The approach area is made of milky white acrylic with hishigi bamboo attached, and when lit from behind, the light shines through the random cracks in the hishigi.
